Long-term System Shutdown
Milli-Q Standard System
- Completely drain the system.
- Take out the cartridges and housings and clean the insides of the housings and heads (follow the directions given earlier in this section.)
- Because bacteria can grow in used cartridges, throw away the current final filter unit and all old cartridges in the system.
Milli-Q Pyrogen-free System
- Completely drain the system.
- Take out the cartridges and housings and clean the insides of the housings and heads (follow the directions given earlier in this section.)
- Because bacteria can grow in used cartridges, throw away the current final filter unit and all old cartridges in the system, except for the UF cartridge
- Immerse the UF cartridge in a heavy plastic bag full of 2-4% formalin and store it in the refrigerator.
- Before restarting the machine, flush the UF cartridge with water to wash out all of the formalin.
- Check the effluent for any remaining formalin using a formdehyde test reagent.
